For the first three years of our work in rural Sri Lanka, early support came primarily from our founder and from corporate matching programs. That backing made it possible to launch meal service, expand to three partner schools, and build the systems we use to track every expense and project.

We have now opened the website to individual supporters as well. Public donors can give securely online through our Support Our Mission page.

What changed

Until recently, the public donate page explained that we were still in a pilot phase and asked supporters to check back later. Behind the scenes we were finishing payment processing, verification, and the finance tools needed to record online gifts with the same care we apply to school projects.

That work is in place. Individual donors can now complete a gift online using encrypted card checkout. Each contribution is logged in our records, linked to a verification step, and handled through the same approval and reporting path as other foundation revenue.

Ways to give

  • Give online — visit weedagama.org/donate, choose an amount, and pay by card through our secure checkout
  • Corporate matching — if your employer offers charitable matching, search for the Weedagama Foundation on Benevity or your company's giving platform; matching can double your impact
  • Wire or check — offline options remain available for supporters who prefer them; use the form on the donate page and our team will follow up with instructions

The Weedagama Foundation is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Why we waited

We did not want to accept public gifts until we could process them reliably and account for them clearly. School partnerships depend on steady, well-documented support—not one-off transactions that are hard to reconcile.

Opening online giving is a step we took deliberately: the same standard we apply when adding a new partner school or a new program.

Where support goes

Donor support continues to fund daily meals, school supplies, connectivity, after-school programs, and other needs identified with partner schools in the Matara district. Operational costs during our early years were covered by our founder so that project funds could focus on students; we remain committed to transparent reporting on how gifts are used.

Thank you

To everyone who supported us in the early years through founder giving and corporate matching: thank you. To supporters who have been waiting to give online: we are glad the door is open.
